Visit to Richmond Castle, 10th July 2025

HOAA Members and Carers are invited to enjoy a day out in Richmond, North Yorkshire on Thursday, July 10th.  Richmond is a beautiful market town at the foot of Swaledale.  It is famous for many things, but perhaps most of all for its impressive castle built by the Normans almost 1000 years ago.  The castle tower, rises nearly 100 feet above the town and from the top offers spectacular views up Swaledale and over to the North York Moors.

We plan to arrive in Richmond around 11am and go straight to the castle.  We will then explore the castle and learn something of its history, with an event combining orienteering and a treasure hunt.  After the event we will have a picnic lunch in the grounds.  If time permits, we will then take a short walk to have a look at the River Swale, said to be the fastest flowing river in England.  We will depart Richmond approximately 3pm, arriving back in Sunderland around 4pm.

To come on the visit, please sign up with either Dave Thompson (tel: 07368 694 283) or Ross Cousins (tel: 07477 961 660).  Please ensure you bring a packed lunch and a drink, dress bearing in mind the weather forecast and in particular wear suitable footwear.

I hope to see you on July 10th.
